ASBS FOUNDATION SET TO HOST 10TH ANNUAL EVENT
HONORING WALTER J. PORIES, MD, FACS
Gainesville, Fla. The ASBS Foundation is set to host their 10th Annual Event where Walter J. Pories, MD, FACS, will be honored as the recipient of the 2007 Outstanding Achievement Award. This Award honors an American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) member with the highest ideals and who has made significant contributions to the field of bariatric surgery.
The ASBS Foundation Event will take place on Wednesday, June 13, during the 24th Annual Meeting of the ASBS in San Diego. This annual fundraising event furthers the Foundation’s research and professional education initiatives, and also supports the patient and public educational and advocacy programs of the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC). The Event also honors the many volunteers and corporate sponsors of the annual Walk from Obesity, a national fundraising event which builds awareness of the obesity epidemic throughout the United States.
Dr. Pories is an experienced bariatric surgeon who serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Surgical Review Corporation and is a Director and member of the Executive Committee of the Metabolic Institute at East Carolina University (ECU). He is also the Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded ECU National Center for the Longitudinal ASBS and served as President of the ASBS.
This year’s Event theme is “Casino Night” and will be an evening full of fun, live musical entertainment and much more. Those who attend the Event include leaders in the field of bariatric surgery, allied health professionals and corporate supporters.
